About product

Ammunition cans for a .50 caliber machine gun in 1:35 scale (Voyager Model)

A set of photo-etched parts, from which you assemble sheet ammunition cans for belted ammunition for the American .50 caliber heavy machine gun. The designation of the older pattern refers to an earlier fit of the can, which differs from the later one in the shape of the lid and the handle. The set is not tied to one particular kit; it suits anywhere you need a convincing load or equipment.

What it is suited to

Ammunition cans belong on the fenders and hulls of armored vehicles, in the beds of trucks, at firing positions and in a display case beside figures. It is precisely small equipment of this type that turns a model into a scene — cans scattered about, a lid open, a belt propped up. Because these are general accessories, you will make use of them on American equipment across periods; the .50 caliber machine gun and its cans have served essentially unchanged for a very long time.

Why photo-etched parts

Plastic cans tend to be solid and have thick walls. A photo-etched can is folded from sheet, so it has correctly thin edges and can even be built with the lid open and the inside visible. The catches, hinges and handle come out crisply, which is not possible with plastic.

Fitting and painting

Fold them in a bender and finish the edges with a smooth jaw, so that the corners are square. Secure the joints with a drop of cyanoacrylate applied with a wire and wipe any excess away at once. After degreasing, use a primer for metal and paint in the basic olive shade of American equipment. The cans used to be marked with white or yellow lettering; you can add the text from decals of your own. A dark wash into the pressings and fine wear along the edges help at the end.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of dioramas with American equipment and figures
  • Modelers who want a convincing load on fenders and in truck beds
  • More experienced modelers who work with photo-etched parts routinely

These are add-on accessories. The model, glue, paints and decals are not included in the package.

FAQ

It is universal. The cans can be placed on any American armored or truck equipment in 1:35 scale, at firing positions or loose in a diorama.

The set is aimed at ammunition cans of the older pattern for the .50 caliber; the particular contents are stated on the box.

Yes, that is the main advantage of photo-etched parts. The lid is a separate part, so an open can with a visible inside can be depicted too.

Markings are not promised; decals are not to be expected in the package. Add the lettering from a stock of decals of your own or paint it.
