An add-on set from Voyager Model that replaces the wheels of a model of the modern American light cross-country vehicle of the HMMWV family in 1:35 scale. A spare wheel is part of the set. It is not a kit of the vehicle: these are replacement parts for the running gear, that is exactly the part of a model the eye notices first, because the vehicle stands on it.
The HMMWV is an American light tactical cross-country vehicle introduced in the 1980s and built in a wide family of configurations, from cargo and signals versions to armored variants. The vehicle has independently sprung wheels and a high-mounted driveline, thanks to which it has unusually great ground clearance. Wheels with a coarse cross-country tread and sturdy rims are among the most prominent recognition features of the vehicle; a spare wheel is routinely carried on the rear or on the roof.
With wheels the seating decides it. Before you start gluing, stand the model on a flat plate and check that all the wheels touch the surface, because a tilted or raised wheel spoils the impression of the whole vehicle. Fit the replacement wheels onto the stubs dry, align them and only then fix them. Watch the orientation of the tread pattern too, so that it is turned the same way on every wheel. Painting is easier before assembly: render the rubber in a dark gray shade, not black, because black in scale comes across as a hole, and paint the rim separately in the color of the vehicle. Apply dust on the tread and in the grooves with dry pigment only at the end. If the parts are of resin, wash them before painting in warm soapy water to remove mold release residue, and glue them with cyanoacrylate.
The set is unassembled and unpainted. The model of the vehicle, the glue and the paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
