Color-rendered ammunition belts for the standard Western machine gun caliber of 7.62 mm, intended for models in 1:35 scale from Quinta Studio. The designation in the name says that the set is not tied to one particular kit – it suits anywhere a belt has to be added to a mounted or a hand-held machine gun, into an ammunition box or draped loose over the frame of a vehicle.
The 7.62x51 mm cartridge became the standard rifle and machine gun ammunition of the North Atlantic Alliance at the beginning of the 1950s. It feeds the American M60, the Belgian FN MAG designated M240 in American service and the German MG3 rebarreled from its original caliber. On these weapons the belt is made up of disintegrating links that fall away one by one during firing, so both spent cases and empty links pile up behind the weapon. On a model it is a rewarding detail, because a belt hanging from the feed mechanism immediately shows that the weapon is ready to fire.
Shape the belts carefully and without force, so that the curve keeps a natural form – a belt never hangs in a straight line, but in a loose loop. Attach it to the feed mechanism and to the box with a drop of cyanoacrylate glue applied with a pin. The color finish can usually be left as it is; just run a brass shade over the edges of the cases and even the surface out with a matte varnish.
The belts are meant to finish off a completed build. Neither the weapon nor the vehicle is sold with them.
