What the accessory is for
A fine grille is one of the few items that at 1:35 scale can hardly be made satisfactorily at home. Bending wire by hand tends to come out irregular and plastic sections look coarse, whereas a ready-made grille panel keeps the pattern fine over its whole area. In a scene it suits town housing, a park, an industrial compound, or an infill between the posts of a boundary wall. It can be combined with other architectural items in the same scale.
Tips for fitting and painting
Handle the part carefully; the thin bars bend easily. Try the item dry first and work out how much of it you need; cut it rather at a vertical bar, so that the cut does not show. Clean and degrease the surface before painting. Choose the glue according to the material of the part and of the groundwork; on thin sections apply the glue with a pin, so that it does not run into the pattern. The painting can be done with a brush or an airbrush: a primer, an overall tone and then a dark wash, which pulls into the corners of the pattern. Use a dry brush or a graphite lead to bring out the edges where the finish wears off in reality, and add small traces of corrosion.
