The Pantsir-S1 is a modern Russian short-range air defense system. It combines a pair of 30 mm automatic cannon with guided anti-aircraft missiles, backed up by its own radars for searching and tracking targets. The system is intended to defend troops and installations against aircraft, helicopters, unmanned aerial vehicles and precision-guided munitions. The combination of cannon and missiles allows it to cover different bands of airspace and to engage targets at short and somewhat longer range. It is usually carried on a cross-country wheeled chassis, which gives it high mobility and rapid redeployment.
