This injection-molded plastic kit from the maker Trumpeter represents the Chinese ZBD-86B tracked infantry fighting vehicle in 1:35 scale. The model combines a hull derived from the BMP-1 with the turret of the newer variant and contains photo-etched parts and decals.
The ZBD-86 (the production designation WZ501) is the Chinese counterpart of the Soviet BMP-1. The vehicle came about by reverse-engineering the design and entered service with the People's Liberation Army in the early 1990s. The ZBD-86B variant is among the newer forms and is fitted with a turret with a 30 mm cannon and anti-tank guided missiles. It serves to carry infantry and to give them fire support.
Assemble the running gear before closing the hull. It is best to paint the turret and the hull with an airbrush over a colored base coat (primer) for plastic, then to bring the broken-up surfaces out with a wash and to fine-tune the dust effects with pigments. Glue the photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue).
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
