A picket fence is made up of vertical pickets with regular gaps, and in this version it has a more delicate, thinner profile, so it reads lightly and does not block the view of the main model. The 1:35 scale matches the usual military vehicle kits and figures of that size.
Picket fences are among the most widespread types of rural fencing in Central Europe. They enclosed gardens, yards and front gardens, marked the edges of field tracks and were never missing at farm buildings. Thinner pickets were used where the fence was not meant to hold anything back, only to mark the boundary of a plot — they were therefore often crooked, thinned out or patched with newer pieces of wood. That small imperfection is the most valuable thing in a diorama: it gives a scene both scale and a story.
Break the parts carefully out of the carrier sheet and true the cut edges with fine abrasive paper. Glue the wood with thin PVA wood glue or with cyanoacrylate; before building, let the assembly dry out completely on a flat surface so that the fence does not warp. Wood takes color beautifully — instead of an opaque coat it pays to use a wood stain or heavily thinned acrylic paint that you let soak in, so that the wood grain stays visible. Graying is achieved with a glaze of gray and brown, and the lower part of the pickets is dusted with pigments in the shade of the surrounding soil. You can bend or break off a few pickets slightly before gluing — the fence then really does look used.
The accessory is supplied as a laser-cut wooden part for assembly, unpainted. The glue, the paints and any further scenery materials are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
