1:35 Plastic Chemical Storage Drums Set#2 (4)

What the set contains

Four drums for storing chemicals in 1:35 scale, as the name indicates. This is the second set of the series, so it can be combined with the others to get a more varied pile than four identical pieces side by side. Drums of this type usually have a cylindrical body with molded hoops, a lid with a clamping ring and labels marking the contents.

What it is suited to

Containers are a rewarding element in any scene: they give it scale, fill empty corners and hint at what is going on in the place. Chemical drums suit warehouses, workshops, refueling points and agricultural as well as industrial scenes, and they look good as a load on a truck bed or on a pallet by a wall. Stood at an angle, with one lying on its side and one half open, they look livelier than a straight row. A small story can be played out around them: a stain on the ground, a shovel leaning against them, wheel tracks in the dust.

Building and painting tips

• cut the excess material off with a sharp blade a short way from the part and sand the remainder
• wash the parts before painting and let them dry thoroughly
• choose the glue according to the material of the parts; the exact procedure is given in the manufacturer's instructions
• plastic containers tend to have a saturated color, so the weathering sits in the seams rather than over the whole surface
• fine labels and lettering are brought to life with a decal or delicate brushwork
