A diorama accessory from the Czech manufacturer Model Scene. It is a laser-cut fence of real wood with irregularly laid out vertical boards — the second version of this motif, with the alternation of widths and heights worked out differently from version I. That is exactly why the two can be built side by side: a longer run of fence then does not look like a repeated pattern but like a real knocked-together fence. It is not a model of a vehicle or of figures, but an element of a scene.
The parts are released from the sheet with a sharp scalpel and the remains of the tabs are sanded with fine abrasive paper. They are glued with white PVA wood glue, and small joints take gel cyanoacrylate. The wood is absorbent, so it is painted with a wood stain or with heavily thinned acrylic glazes in coats; uneven shades on the individual boards underline the irregularity further. The edges are brought out with a dry brush and the gaps darkened with a wash. Sinking the posts into the terrain and letting sections lean slightly out of true give the fence credibility.
A longer fence needs rhythm: alternate sections of both versions, move one of them a little forward and let another lean slightly. Add grass, weeds and fallen leaves at the feet, suggest a rotted lower edge on some boards with a darker wash and lean small yard equipment against the inner side.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The glue, the paints and any further scenery materials are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
