The fence is put together from boards of uniform width with a straight top edge — it looks orderly and suits anywhere the fencing is meant to look maintained and new. It is supplied as a laser-cut wooden part that the modeler assembles, paints and sets into a scene.
A regular board fence is the simplest way to close off a plot. It was built from sawn timber at newer homesteads, barracks yards, stores and the service areas of workshops. The orderly rhythm of the boards is useful here in visual terms: it creates a calm surface against which the main model or a figure scene stands out, and at the same time it clearly shows the scale of the whole vignette.
Break the parts carefully out of the carrier sheet and true the cut edges with fine abrasive paper. Glue the wood with thin PVA wood glue or with cyanoacrylate; before building, let the assembly dry out completely on a flat surface so that the fence does not warp. With a regular fence there is a risk that it will look too machine-made. Variety of color helps: paint each board with a differently thinned glaze and make several of them markedly lighter or darker. If the fence is meant to look older, you can bend individual boards slightly before gluing, cut them shorter or leave them out altogether. A wash into the joints and pigment at ground level finish the impression off.
