An accessory set for a model of the German Panzer IV medium tank in 1:35 scale. These are return roller bases in the welded form, that is the brackets by which the rollers are attached to the side of the hull. The set is fitted to a model built from a base kit and is aimed at modelers to whom the difference between production forms is worth the extra work.
The Panzer IV had road wheel bogies sprung by leaf springs on each side and above them the return rollers that carry the upper run of the track. The mounting of the rollers changed during production. The welded form replaced the earlier cast one, because it was simpler and faster to make. The shape of the bracket is therefore a guide by which a vehicle can be assigned to a production period, and on a model it is clearly visible, because it lies on the side of the hull at the viewer's eye level.
Separate the parts carefully from their gates with a sharp knife or a fine saw, sand the cuts and degrease the surface before painting. They glue reliably with cyanoacrylate glue, and on larger parts a brief dry-fitted trial helps. The base deserves a primer, and only then apply the base shade. The weathering is done as on the rest of the suspension, that is a dark wash in the recesses and pigments for dust and mud in the places dirt really reaches. Seat the bases exactly in one plane, otherwise the upper run of the track will not run parallel with the side of the hull. It helps to mark the position in advance with a pencil against the original parts and to check it with a ruler before the glue dries.
