About product

Pz.Kpfw.VI Ausf.B King Tiger, Ardennes 1944 (1:35, Rye Field Model)

A detailed injection-molded kit of the German heavy tank Tiger II, nicknamed the King Tiger or Koenigstiger, in 1:35 scale from the manufacturer Rye Field Model. The set captures machines from the fighting in the Ardennes at the end of 1944. The equipment includes photo-etched parts, a number of 3D printed parts (for example the jack, the antiaircraft machine gun, the muzzle brake, the headlights and the fire extinguisher), workable one-piece tracks and a fully rendered Maybach HL 230 engine. Check the exact contents of the box against the instructions.

The real subject

The Tiger II was the last German heavy tank to be series-produced in the Second World War. It entered the fighting from 1944 and combined heavy frontal armor with a powerful 8.8 cm gun with a long barrel. It could destroy Allied tanks at long range, but it paid for that with a heavy, fuel-hungry and unreliable design. In the Ardennes offensive at the turn of 1944 and 1945 these machines were committed in western Europe.

Building and painting tips

Assemble the running gear, the torsion bars and the workable tracks first; settle the engine and the internal detail before you close the hull. Glue the photo-etched and 3D printed parts with cyanoacrylate glue. Apply a primer before painting. Late German armored vehicles usually carried a three-color camouflage (dark yellow, green and brown). Build the patina with a wash into the hollows and with filters and dust pigments on the running gear and the lower areas.

Who the model is for

  • For advanced modelers of German armored hardware of the Second World War.
  • For those interested in a detailed build with photo-etch, 3D parts and an engine.
  • For collectors of Tiger II tanks and of the fighting in the Ardennes.
  • Suitable for a diorama of the winter western front of 1944 and 1945.

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
