A photo-etched accessory in 1:35 scale from ELEFANT. These are racks for boxes for Panzer III tanks of the L and N versions, supplied in two versions. It is not a kit of the vehicle but a fine detail of a kind that cannot be made from injection-molded plastic - the thin sheet of the rack would be several times thicker in plastic than the real thing warrants.
The Panzer III L and N versions belonged to the later batches of the German Panzer III medium tank. The L version carried a long 5 cm barrel, the N version a short 7.5 cm barrel intended mainly for infantry support. Both were used in 1942 and 1943. Racks and frames for carrying boxes with equipment, spare parts and the crew's personal belongings were common on the hulls and fenders of the vehicles. The execution differed according to the production batch and according to what the crew fitted themselves, which is why the set offers two versions.
Release the photo-etched parts from the fret with a sharp scalpel on a hard support, not by twisting - the metal would otherwise bend. Make the folds along the scored lines, best of all in a photo-etch bending tool or between the jaws of flat pliers, so that the edge is sharp and straight. It is glued with super glue, or soldered; cement for plastic does not hold on metal. Degrease the parts before painting and apply a primer suited to metal, otherwise the finish rubs off during handling. On a finished model the rack stands out after a light wash and a dry brush, which emphasize the edges of the sheet.
The set is an accessory, not a complete model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
