The set 1:35 RAR Infantry (1) opens the numbered range that Bravo 6 has devoted to the infantry of the Australian Royal Australian Regiment. These are castings in modeling resin in 1:35 scale, that is a figure accessory for a diorama rather than a kit of a vehicle. The range continues with further parts, so the set also suits collectors who are assembling a whole group of figures into one scene.
A resin casting holds finer detail than injection-molded plastic: a tropical uniform with rolled-up sleeves, the straps of the load-carrying system, the pouches and the hat all have legible relief on Bravo 6 castings. The parts come on casting blocks. The material is hard and brittle, sands well, but does not take bending or a fall onto a hard surface.
Wash the castings in lukewarm water with dish soap so that they are rid of the mold release agent. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine saw and level the surfaces with abrasive paper used wet, protecting your airways as you do. Glue the joints with superglue and fill the gaps with putty. Start the painting with a primer. An Australian tropical uniform is built in warmer green tones than an American one, so it is a good idea to set it apart already when mixing the base shade; a wash in the folds and a fine lightening of the edges will then give the fabric volume. Paint the face and the hands in layers and even the surface out with a matte clear coat at the end.
