The set contains individual bricks intended for building masonry straight onto a scene. It is not a finished wall or a part with a molded pattern but loose pieces that the modeler lays up himself. That is exactly why you get the corner of a house with a real joint, an irregular top to a wall or a heap of rubble of the kind that really remains after a hit.
Molded brick texture has one problem: all the joints are equally deep and equally wide. Real masonry never looks like that. With loose bricks the bond can be staggered, one course shifted, another left missing and, above all, the places where the plaster has fallen away and the brick is exposed can be played faithfully. Five hundred pieces will cover a smaller stretch of wall, a chimney, a fence or a decent heap of rubble by the track of a tank.
First sketch the bond onto the base in pencil, so that the courses do not wander. Lay the bricks dry and fix them only once the whole course is level. Fill the joints with a thin compound, which once it has set can be wiped off the face, so that it stays only where it belongs. Painting starts from the fact that no two bricks have an identical tone, so shift several pieces toward ocher and others toward gray and finally unify the whole with a glaze.
The bricks are supplied unpainted; neither mortar nor binder is in the package.
