The set contains footwear for a figure in 1:35 scale. It is not a model and not a whole figure but a replacement part with which the simplified boots cast in one piece with the trouser leg on an ordinary plastic figure are replaced. Winter footwear belongs among the most conspicuous elements of a figure — it is bulky, shaped differently than a summer boot and it changes the whole silhouette of a figure. The same subject comes out in further scales too, so watch the scale of your figure when choosing.
The winter dress of a soldier on the Eastern Front differs from the summer one not only in the outer clothing but precisely in the footwear. Russian winter footwear includes tall felt boots as well as leather boots worn with gaiters or puttees; the name of the set does not specify the particular type more closely, so compare it with the real subject you are building after unpacking. In a scene it suits figures in winter coats and greatcoats, winter dioramas with snow and mud and figures of sentries or of vehicle crews outside their vehicle.
First separate the part from the casting system with a sharp blade or a fine saw as close to the part as possible and level the trace of the sprue gate with a finer-grit sandpaper. If the set is cast in resin, wash it in lukewarm water with a detergent before painting to rid it of residues of the release agent, and choose the glue according to the material: on resin a cyanoacrylate super glue, on plastic parts a thin glue for plastic. Sand resin wet and with protection for your airways.
Winter footwear is painted from the middle value toward the edges: build the base up thinly, then add a dry brush on the raised areas and a dark wash into the folds. Felt has a matte, slightly hairy surface — avoid a sheen and suggest the fine texture with a mottled underpainting. Give the bottom of the boot a patina according to the scene: snow, muddy slushy roads and dry dust all look different. Even the transition between the boot and the trouser leg of the figure out with a two-part compound, so that the joint is not visible.
This is an accessory for a figure, not a model on its own. The set is supplied unpainted; paints, glue and the figure are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
