A resin set that imitates the improvised protection of sandbags as the crews of M113 carriers built it during the Vietnam War. It is an accessory, not a model of the vehicle: the carrier itself has to be obtained separately as a plastic kit in 1:35 scale. The casting adds a layer to the model that plastic molds cannot capture faithfully, that is the softly buckled fabric of the bags, their irregular layering and the way they are pressed down by weight.
The M113 is an American armored personnel carrier with a welded aluminum hull that became the most widespread tracked carrier of the Western world. Its low weight and buoyancy were paid for with thin armor, and that is exactly why crews in Vietnam added weapons and completed the protection by improvised means. Sandbags stacked on the front of the hull, around the gunner's position and on the sides were among the most common modifications and remain to this day a typical identifying mark of carriers from that service.
Wash the resin parts in lukewarm water with dish soap first, so that the remains of the mold release agent are gone, as otherwise the paint will not hold. Separate the casting blocks with a fine saw or a cutting disc and never break them off. Sand wet and with your airways protected. It is glued with super glue, ideally with an activator, as plastic cement has no effect on resin. Apply a filler primer before painting; sandbag cloth looks good in light gray-beige and khaki shades with a careful dry brush on the edges of the seams. Deal with dust and mud using pigments and thinned washes, as the bags tended to be noticeably dirtier than the armor around them.
