The Sd.Kfz. 234/1 was a variant of the German heavy eight-wheeled armored car, armed with a 2 cm autocannon in an open turret with a wire mesh screen against grenades from above. The vehicle had a load-bearing hull, all-wheel drive, steering on both the front and the rear axles and a second driver's station for a quick withdrawal. It was meant for long-range reconnaissance, where speed and range counted for more than armor protection.
On wheeled vehicles with an open turret the rule is that whatever has to be seen inside must be finished before the turret is closed up. Go through the instructions for the photo-etched set before you start gluing the plastic hull, and write out the steps that have to be done on a part-built model. Typically these are the inner walls, the mesh screen and brackets you will not reach later. Lay the photo-etched part on dry and check whether the plastic part needs a molding pip sanded off first, because the brass sheet has to seat on a flat surface, otherwise a gap opens underneath it. Only then glue, and paint the whole thing together at the very end so that the shade of metal and plastic matches.
