The Sd.Kfz. 251 and Sd.Kfz. 11 are half-track vehicles built on a related chassis: the first as an armored personnel carrier, the second as a tractor. At the rear is the tracked running gear, at the front an unpowered axle with wheels by which the vehicle steers. Because the wheels do not transmit the drive, they wore differently from the tracks and their tires came from several suppliers. This set represents the tread carried under the Fulda name.
On a model of a half-track the wheel is a small but treacherous part: the round outline and the regular pattern give away every inaccuracy. Replacement wheels treat this part separately, with a chosen type of tread. For the builder that means two things at once. First, there is less cleaning up of the part in the place where the pattern is easily wiped away. Second, the tread that really was on a particular vehicle can be chosen from a period photograph, or two vehicles of the same type can be told apart by this detail.
Cut the excess material away with a sharp blade a little way from the part and sand the remainder down. Wash and degrease the wheel and only then paint it; choose the glue according to the material of the parts and the manufacturer's instructions. When seating them, take care over the vertical position and the same steering angle on both wheels. Paint the tire dark gray and the rim in the vehicle color, and keep the transition between them sharp. Apply the dusting from the bottom upward and let it fade, so that it looks like settled dust and not like a spray.
What is supplied is an add-on set of front wheels. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
