This is a resin accessory set, not a model of the vehicle. It replaces the tracks of a model of the Sd.Kfz.251 half-track armored personnel carrier in 1:35 scale in their early production form. Unlike the sister sets of the same range, this one holds the tracks alone, and the drive sprocket is not included; if you need that too, reach for the version that has it in its name. This version comes in handy when the drive sprocket from the box suits you and you want to replace the track only.
The Sd.Kfz.251 was a medium half-track armored personnel carrier of the Second World War period. A front steered axle with wheels was combined on it with a tracked running gear with interleaved road wheels on torsion bars. The tracks were changed several times during series production, among other reasons for simplification and to save material, so the early and the later form differ in the shape of the link. The vehicle was built in many modifications and in 1:35 scale it is among the most frequently built subjects, which is matched by the number of accessories for its running gear.
First wash the parts in lukewarm water with a drop of detergent: resin tends to carry mold release residue, and without washing the primer will not hold. Separate the links with a fine saw or a knife, never snap them off, and sand the burrs wet with respiratory protection. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Assemble them in sections directly on the model: the straight run under the road wheels, the curves around the drive sprocket and the idler, and finally the upper run. Shape the sag of the upper run of the track above the road wheels before the glue stiffens. Count on a track glued into a fixed shape; the treatment of the links is stated on the box of the set. Paint them separately from the hull: a primer base, then a dark steel shade, dust and mud from below and glossy wear marks on the contact faces at the very end.
This is an accessory to a model, not a kit in its own right. It is supplied unassembled and unpainted; the base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
