This set of Star Decals markings in 1:35 scale is devoted to the Soviet T-62 medium tanks deployed in Afghanistan. The package brings decals for a finished and painted model; the model itself is not included.
The T-62 was introduced from the start of the 1960s and its main novelty was the smoothbore 115 mm gun, the first of its kind in tank armament. The turret is cast, rounded and low, the hull long and narrow. In Afghanistan it was the most widespread Soviet tank, and its task tended to be escorting convoys, guarding positions and providing fire support rather than fighting tank duels. Some of the vehicles received add-on protection and altered equipment during the deployment.
The cast turret of the T-62 is rounded in two axes, so the large numbers on its sides have to follow the curve. Seat them one at a time, then, with a softening agent and with patience, until the film settles right down onto the surface. The cast surface tends to be rendered as rough on a model, so level the place for a decal with a gloss varnish first, otherwise air will be held under the film and the markings will silver. Matte them down only once they are completely dry, and leave the dust deposits on the fenders and around the tanks right to the end.
