The Soviet G-5 motor torpedo boat in 1:35 scale is a large plastic kit from the I Love Kit brand, intended for modelers with experience of building ships.

An injection-molded plastic kit of a fast torpedo boat of the Soviet Navy. The 1:35 scale is unusually generous for a small vessel: compared with the usual ship scales it allows far more detail on the deck, on the armament and in the shaping of the hull, and the finished model is correspondingly large. The kit is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
The G-5 class boat was a Soviet fast torpedo boat designed at the turn of the 1920s and 1930s. The aviation school of design left its mark on it: the hull was welded from light alloy and had a planing bottom, which allowed the boat high speed on calm water. The torpedoes were not carried in classic tubes but in troughs in the stern, from which they were released astern while the boat was moving. Machine guns completed the armament. Boats of this class were in service with the Soviet Navy during the Second World War and were used mainly in coastal waters.
First work out the order of the job: the deck and the internal equipment are easier to paint before the hull is closed. The joint of the two halves of the hull calls for filler and careful sanding; on the smooth sides of a ship every imperfection shows. Mask the waterline with good tape and spray it onto a full, well-cured base. Use a small amount of cyanoacrylate for the small metal and clear parts. Gloss varnish comes before the decals, a matte or satin one after them, and only then a wash in the deck seams and light weathering. With a large model it pays to build with a stand or transport in mind from the start.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
