About product

Soviet ZIS-30 (1:35, Hobby Boss)

An injection-molded plastic kit of the Soviet ZIS-30 light tank destroyer in 1:35 scale from Hobby Boss. The model captures the improvised vehicle created by mounting an anti-tank gun on the chassis of an artillery tractor. The kit is richly broken down and contains individual track links to be assembled, a detailed running gear and photo-etched parts. Check the exact contents of the package against the manufacturer's part number for this item.

The real subject

The ZIS-30 was one of the hurriedly designed armored vehicles that Soviet industry created shortly after the German attack in 1941. A 57 mm ZIS-2 anti-tank gun was mounted on the chassis of the Komsomolets artillery tractor. Only around a hundred were built; because of the shortage of both chassis and guns it was an emergency solution, but an effective one against German tanks in the early part of the war.

Building and painting tips

Assemble the individual track links patiently and finish and paint the running gear before you go any further. It is worth painting the open superstructure with the gun and the gunner's seat in detail, because it stays visible. After the base coat has been sprayed with an airbrush, bring out the detail with a wash and apply mud and dust pigments to the running gear and the underside.

Who the model is for

  • Collectors of Soviet vehicles of the early Second World War
  • Modelers with experience of building vehicles in 1:35
  • Anyone interested in improvised and rare tank destroyers
  • Builders of Eastern Front dioramas of 1941 and 1942

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
