This item is not a model of the self-propelled gun but a resin accessory to it. It holds castings of stowage and personal crew equipment that are placed in the open fighting compartment, on the fenders and on the superstructure. Sets of this kind serve to make a model stop looking like a freshly built vehicle from the factory and take on the look of equipment in the field. The material is cast polyurethane resin, which holds sharper edges and a finer surface texture than injection molded plastic, above all on cloth and canvas shapes.
The Wespe (Sd.Kfz. 124) was a German light self-propelled gun of the Second World War. It came about by seating an open superstructure with a 105 mm howitzer on the chassis of the Pz.Kpfw. II light tank. The open fighting compartment is the key thing about this subject: you can see inside, so an empty tub looks unnatural on a model. In practice crews stowed crates, tarpaulins, packs, jerrycans and other material in the free spaces, because the vehicle had a minimum of internal storage volume.
Wash the castings in lukewarm water with dish soap first, so that the remains of the mold release agent are removed. Separate the casting blocks with a fine saw or a cutting disc rather than by snapping, and sand the surfaces wet with your airways protected. It is glued with super glue (cyanoacrylate), as ordinary plastic cement does not hold on resin. Apply a primer before painting. Cloth and canvas look good when the base shade is lightened with a dry brush on the edges of the folds and, conversely, darkened with a glazing wash in the hollows. Set wood, leather and metal apart by different degrees of gloss and unify everything at the end with a fine dust pigment.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted, as resin castings. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
