About product

The T2 utility van in passenger form, 1:35 scale

The set represents the second-generation van adapted to carry passengers, as it looked in 1967. AK interactive has placed it in its range of civilian hardware, which builders use on its own as well as an addition to urban and roadside scenes.

The real subject

The German van designated T2 replaced its more angular predecessor in 1967. The most conspicuous change was the one-piece windshield, which gave the vehicle its nickname. The flat air-cooled engine stayed at the rear, the crew compartment lay in front of it and the vertical front end gave the driver an unusually open view. The glazed passenger version spread across the whole of Europe as a family and company vehicle and became one of the symbols of the 1960s and 1970s.

Building and painting tips

The large flat areas of the body will betray every irregularity, so it pays to sand the base very finely and to spray the shade in two passes. The popular two-tone scheme rests on precise masking at the dividing line between the two shades. Fit the glazing only at the end and protect it with masking fluid so that no overspray reaches it.

Who the model is for

  • anyone interested in civilian hardware of the 1960s
  • builders of urban and roadside dioramas
  • collectors of utility vehicles in 1:35 scale
  • modelers who want to liven a military scene up with a civilian vehicle

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted, without glue and paints.

FAQ

The passenger version has glazed sides and benches for passengers, while the panel van is built as a closed cargo compartment.

Yes. The 1:35 scale is the most common one for military models, so a civilian vehicle fits into the scene without trouble.

You do not have to, but the large flat areas of the body look markedly more even sprayed than brushed.
