The resin accessory from PANZER ART represents a wooden sapper beam as it was carried fixed to the German Tiger I heavy tank, in 1:35 scale. It is not a kit of the tank, but a separate casting that is added to a finished model. A resin casting renders the texture of the wood, the growth rings and the battered edges more faithfully than injection molded plastic can.
The Tiger I was a German heavy tank of the Second World War with massive armor and a stepped superstructure that left plenty of room for fixing external equipment. Besides tools, spare track links and cables, the crews' kit also included bulky wooden pieces that served as a base under a jack, an aid in recovery and a support on soft ground. In period photographs this material changes the silhouette of the vehicle and is one of the things that set a machine in the field apart from a model from the box.
Wash the casting in lukewarm water with dish soap, so that the release agent is gone. Cut the casting block off with a fine saw and sand the surface wet with your breathing protected. It is glued with super glue; try the position dry beforehand and watch that the part does not clash with the tools on the hull. Paint the wood in layers: a light base tone, then thin oil or acrylic glazes drawn along the grain, then a dark wash in the gaps and finally a dry brush on the raised edges. A grayish cast and dust take the plastic look away from the wood.
The accessory is supplied unpainted, as a resin casting. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
