Pre-cut self-adhesive painting masks in 1:35 scale from Art Scale. These are not a kit or spare parts but an aid for painting. You stick the masks onto the clear parts, they cover the transparent areas and leave only the frames of the cockpit, the doors and the roof windows exposed. On a helicopter this is a job that pays off especially well: the glazing is large and broken up, and cutting tape by hand for it takes more time than building the fuselage itself. The single-sided version deals with the outer side. The masks are cut to the shape of the parts of a particular kit in this scale, so with another kit check the fit dry.
The Bell UH-1C belongs to the UH-1 family of helicopters, nicknamed the Huey. It was an armed version derived from the transport configuration: it was given a more powerful engine and a modified main rotor with wider blades in order to cope with the higher weight of the armament and with more aggressive maneuvering. The fuselage has the typical glazed nose with large front windows, side doors and roof panels, so an unusually large area of the model is glazing. That is exactly why pre-cut masks are used very often on this subject.
Wash the clear parts in lukewarm water with detergent and let them air dry. Pop the masks out of the sheet with the tip of a scalpel and carry them with tweezers. Mask the large curved front windows in sections: lay the mask in the middle, press toward the edges and smooth the edge down with a toothpick. If the shape does not sit precisely on a curve, trim the outline with a fresh blade right on the part. Spray the framing in thin coats at right angles to the surface; on a large glazed area every heavy coat shows as a step at the edge. Lift the mask as soon as the paint has flashed off, pulling it back at an angle over itself.
The masks are an aid for painting, not a kit or spare parts. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
