Beware of confusion: this item is not a vehicle kit, but a photo-etched detail set in 1:35 scale that you buy in addition to a model. It serves to replace the parts that plastic cannot render thin enough at this scale; on an open carrier these are above all the internal fittings of the hull, sheet metal bulkheads, clamps, hinges and equipment brackets. Check the exact contents of the package with the manufacturer. The set is made by the Czech company Eduard.
The Universal Carrier was a British light tracked carrier with an open hull, a low silhouette and simple construction, produced in large numbers in the Commonwealth countries as well. It served to carry sections, to move ammunition and materiel, as a tractor for light weapons and in a range of specialized conversions. The open hull is the key point from a modeling standpoint: on a finished model the whole inside of the vehicle is visible, including the seats, bulkheads and equipment stowage, so every simplified plastic detail shows at once. The Mk.II designation corresponds to one of the production variants of this family.
Cut the etched parts off with a scalpel on a hard surface and never snap them out. Bend longer sheet metal flanges gradually in a bending tool so that the bend stays straight along its whole length. Sand the original plastic detail flat first, otherwise the new part will not seat. Use a minimal amount of super glue. On an open vehicle it pays to paint and weather the interior of the hull before fitting the upper parts and the stowage, as it is hard to get a brush inside afterwards. Build up the final weathering with a dark wash in the recesses and pigments for mud effects on the running gear.
This is an accessory, not a stand-alone model. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
