An injection-molded plastic kit of the American heavy field howitzer of 155 mm caliber, the M1918 type, in 1:35 scale from the German manufacturer Das Werk. The set is generously equipped: it allows the gun to be built in the travel position and in the firing position, with the breech open or closed, and it holds accessories for a gun position, shells, ammunition boxes and loading tools among them. A photo-etched part and a decal sheet are included as well.
The M1918 howitzer is based on the French Schneider design (Canon de 155 Mle 1917). More than one army had it in service; it served in the First and the Second World War and in further conflicts. The German army marked captured pieces as the 15.5 cm sFH 414(f). A sturdy carriage and an effective caliber made it a widespread artillery weapon.
Assemble the carriage and the barrel first, and deal with the accessories and the ammunition only then. Glue the parts with a thin plastic cement and the fine photo-etched pieces with cyanoacrylate. The gun comes into its own in a diorama with a crew; bring the metal and the wood out with a wash and dust pigments for the realistic look of a field position.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
