1:48 USAF Lockheed-Martin F-16D Viper: markings for two-seat Vipers of the US Air Force from Caracal Models.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of decals from the Caracal Models brand focused on the two-seat F-16D version in American service. The nickname Viper arose among the crews and caught on so thoroughly that official material uses it today as well, although the official name of the type is Fighting Falcon.
The F-16D has the same airframe behind it as the single-seat version, but with an extended canopy and a second seat behind the pilot. The interior space for a second crewman took away part of the fuel tank, but the flying qualities stayed practically identical, so two-seat examples were used not only for conversion training but also on live tasks where a second pair of eyes came in useful. Later blocks can be told apart by the equipment in the dorsal area of the fuselage and by an engine with a different nozzle.
Vipers carry a great many small service legends, and their layout on the two-seat version differs from the single-seat one: the cockpit takes up a longer stretch of the fuselage and some of the legends move rearward. Work from the large insignia to the small ones, press each one down and let it tack off, and only then reach for the next. On the curved spine and the wing root a decal softener applied in two thin doses helps.
The sheet holds decals only. A kit of the F-16D and paints have to be bought as well.
