This is not a model of the vehicle but an accessory: a set of workable tracks for the American M113 armored personnel carrier in 1:35 scale. The track is made up of individual links that are put together into a working whole, and so replaces the one-piece track supplied in the box.
The M113 has its running gear exposed along the whole length, so the track is visible on a model from every side and decides the final impression. A one-piece track holds the shape the mold gave it and stays taut as a string between the rollers. A track assembled from links behaves like the real thing - it wraps around the drive sprocket and the idler wheel without visible edges and in the upper run drops exactly where it should. The inner face of the links and the guide teeth are visible too, which counts for a great deal on a low vehicle with exposed running gear.
The M113 is an American tracked armored personnel carrier with a hull of aluminum alloy, taken into service at the beginning of the 1960s. Thanks to its low weight it was amphibious and air-transportable, and it first proved itself fully in combat in Vietnam. Several tens of thousands were built, and in dozens of variants it serves in a number of armies to this day, which makes it one of the most widespread tracked designs of all. Its track with rubber pads protected the road surface and was typical of the whole family.
Assemble the track according to the instructions directly on the finished running gear, so that it matches the spacings of the particular model. Work in shorter sections and keep watching how the track sits on the rollers. When painting, start with a dark brown or gray-brown, set the rubber pads apart in a matte dark gray and bring the contact surfaces to life with a steel dry brush.
