This resin set replaces the wheels of the American DUKW amphibious truck on a plastic kit in 1:35 scale. It is an accessory, not a model of the vehicle. The castings carry a bend in the tire where it meets the road, which on this particular type is not merely an aesthetic touch but a detail with a technical basis.
The DUKW was an amphibious truck with all-wheel drive, derived from an ordinary military truck whose chassis received a watertight hull body, a propeller and a rudder. One of its technically most interesting features was a system that allowed the tire pressure to be changed while driving, directly from the driver's seat. When coming out of the water onto soft sand, the pressure was lowered, the tire spread and flattened markedly, and the weight of the vehicle was thus distributed over a larger area. A wheel with visible deformation is therefore not an exaggerated effect on this vehicle but a reference to how the machine actually worked.
Wash the castings in lukewarm water with dish soap, cut the casting blocks off and level the hub surfaces. Orient the deformed flat spot straight down and line all the wheels up in the same plane; on a six-wheel chassis that is rather more work than on a car. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Build the painting on contrast: dark gray rubber, the rim in the color of the vehicle, a fine sand pigment between the blocks of the tread. If you are building a scene by water, add a damp, darker and glossier deposit on the lower part of the wheels, which contrasts sharply with the dry dust higher up.
The accessory is supplied unpainted, as resin castings to be finished. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
