About product

Basic photo-etched set 1:35 for the Bergepanther Ausf.G from Voyager Model

A photo-etched set from the Chinese manufacturer Voyager Model for the recovery vehicle built on the Panther chassis. It is cut for the Takom 2107 plastic kit and, in its basic scope, covers the external assemblies where plastic cannot be thin enough in 1:35 scale. The model of the vehicle is not in the package; what you get is frets of photo-etched brass.

The real subject

The Bergepanther was a recovery vehicle derived from the chassis of the Panther medium tank. It came about from a simple need: the heavier German vehicles could not be recovered by lighter tractors, and recovering them often required several machines to be coupled together. Instead of a turret the vehicle had an open superstructure with a winch, wooden beams to spread the pulling force, and at the rear a lowering spade with which the vehicle braced itself against the ground while pulling. The Ausf.G version corresponds to a later production stage, when the chassis of the newest variant of the tank was used. The result is a rewarding modeling subject, because the open superstructure offers room for detailing and for figures and a load in a diorama.

Patina and wear down to the metal

A working vehicle does not look convincing without wear, and photo-etched parts give a possibility plastic does not have. In the places where the crew moved about, or where a cable rubbed against the sheet, the paint can be carefully rubbed through once dry with fine abrasive paper or a glass pencil down to bare brass. Real metallic sheen results, not just a painted imitation. Go about it sparingly and only where wear would genuinely occur, that is on the edges, the non-skid surfaces and around the winch. Treat the rest of the surface with a thin wash to bring out the engraving and with dry pigment on the lower areas, so that the vehicle takes on a dusty, working look.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of German engineer and support subjects of the Second World War.
  • Modelers building dioramas with recovery and maintenance.
  • More experienced builders used to working with photo-etched parts.
  • Collectors bothered by the thickness of plastic sheet and mesh.

This is an add-on set, not a model. The basic plastic kit, the glue and the paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

It is not. The set holds only photo-etched brass parts; the plastic kit has to be obtained separately.

Carefully rub the dried paint through with fine abrasive paper or a glass pencil down to the brass. Real metallic sheen results.

It is a basic scope aimed at the external assemblies. The number of parts is given in the manufacturer's instructions in the package.

For the Takom 2107 kit. That is bought separately.
