About product

Jagdpanzer 38(t) Hetzer, mid production 1:35 — E.T. Model photo-etched set

This item is not a kit, but a photo-etched detail set made of thin sheet metal, intended for a model of the Jagdpanzer 38(t) light tank destroyer in 1:35 scale. Metal takes over the parts that are genuinely thin and that a plastic model inevitably thickens: the Schürzen, the grilles, the fenders, the tool clamps, the lifting eyes and the small grab handles. The set covers the mid-production version, which differs from the early and the late vehicles in workshop details.

The real subject

The Jagdpanzer 38(t) was a German light tank destroyer built on a chassis derived from a Czechoslovak tank whose production base was used for German output during the war. The vehicle had a very low silhouette, a steeply sloped front plate and a 7.5 cm anti-tank gun in the right-hand part of the front wall. It was cheap, quick to build and easy to hide, which offset the limited view from the crew positions and the cramped fighting compartment. It was produced at the end of the Second World War and served with other armies afterwards, so it offers an unusually varied choice of markings.

Usage and painting tips

The Schürzen look incomparably better in metal than in plastic: you can bend them, leave one missing or suggest damage. Cut the parts off with a scalpel, make the folds in a photo-etch bender and glue them with the smallest possible amount of cyanoacrylate. Degrease the metal before painting and give it a metal primer. A contrasting camouflage, finely drybrushed edges and dust pigments on the lower surfaces suit the small vehicle very well.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of Second World War armor in 1:35 scale
  • Modelers who want metal Schürzen with a realistic bend
  • More experienced builders used to working with photo-etched parts
  • Diorama builders interested in vehicles produced in the Czech lands

The package holds photo-etched parts only. The base kit, glue, paints and other accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

No. It is a photo-etched set of metal details; the plastic kit has to be bought separately.

The vehicles changed gradually during production. The mid-production series differs from the early and the late ones in workshop details, for example in the exhaust and the brackets.

The real plates were thin and in the field often dented or missing. Metal imitates that faithfully, while a plastic part looks coarse.

Cyanoacrylate glue. Plastic cement will not bond metal parts.
