E.T. Model 1:35 photo-etched detail set for the German Jagdpanzer IV tank destroyer with the long L/70 gun, in the basic range. An accessory for a kit, not a model of the vehicle.
Responsibility details are not available.
This item is not a kit, but a photo-etched detail set made of thin sheet metal for a model of the Jagdpanzer IV tank destroyer in the long-barrel version. The photo-etched metal replaces parts that injection-molded plastic cannot make thin enough: the engine deck grilles, the Schürzen, the fenders, the tool clamps, the lifting eyes and the spare-part brackets. The scope of the set is basic, so it concentrates on the main external details of the vehicle.
The Jagdpanzer IV was a German tank destroyer built on the chassis of the Panzer IV tank. Instead of a rotating turret it had a low welded casemate with steeply sloped walls, which gave it a very low silhouette and hid it well in a defensive firing position. The version with the long 7.5 cm gun, the same as the barrel of the Panther tank, brought a marked gain in penetrating power, but it also overloaded the front of the vehicle, which showed up as wear on the running gear. The vehicles were committed in the final phase of the Second World War.
The Schürzen are a rewarding detail: in metal you can bend them realistically, suggest a missing piece or a hit. Cut the parts off with a scalpel, make the folds in a photo-etch bender and glue them with cyanoacrylate applied on the point of a pin. Degrease the metal before painting and spray it with a metal primer. Late German vehicles were painted quickly and carelessly, which suits a model: soft transitions in the camouflage, scuffed areas around the hatches and dust pigments on the fenders and the running gear.
The package holds photo-etched parts only. The base kit, glue, paints and other accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
