About product

Armor plates Sd.Kfz. 250, late configuration, 1:35 (Voyager Model)

An extensive photo-etched add-on set from Voyager Model meant for a model of the Sd.Kfz. 250 light half-track armored personnel carrier in the late configuration that you already own. It is not a kit of the vehicle: these are brass armor plates and the related details, which replace the coarser plastic surfaces and supplement them with features that cannot be made by injection molding. The set is cut for the Dragon kit.

The real subject

The Sd.Kfz. 250 was a German light half-track armored personnel carrier of the Second World War. It served as a reconnaissance, signals and command vehicle and a whole range of purpose-built modifications grew out of it. From 1943 a simplified late version was built, in the period designation neu: the hull box received fewer faceted surfaces, which made welding faster and cheaper. The difference between the early and the late hull is apparent on a model at first glance, which is why add-on sets are always tied to one of the two variants.

Building and painting tips

The key skill with this set is accurate bending. Long straight edges are best broken in a bender for photo-etched parts; without one, help yourself with two steel rulers and bend the edge along the whole length at once rather than in sections. The etched groove on a part shows where the bend belongs, and it faces inwards while bending. Bend smoothly and without repeated straightening, because brass cracks when it is folded back and forth. Fix a seated part first with a drop of cyanoacrylate in a corner, check the squareness against a square and only then glue the joint along its length. Degrease the whole thing before painting and lay on a thin coat of base; covering paint holds considerably worse on bare brass.

Who the set is for

  • Modelers of German half-track vehicles of the Second World War in 1:35 scale.
  • Builders who want more faithful surfaces and edges of the hull than plastic allows.
  • More experienced users equipped with a bender for photo-etched parts or at least steel rulers.
  • Those building the vehicle in the late, simplified hull configuration.

The set is unassembled and unpainted. The package does not hold the kit of the vehicle, the glue or the paints, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

No. It is a photo-etched add-on set for a model you already own. The kit of the carrier is not included.

For the late, simplified hull configuration of the Sd.Kfz. 250. The parts will not fit the early hull with its more faceted surfaces.

It helps a great deal. The set holds long straight edges, and without a bender you will keep them straight only with the help of two steel rulers and patience.

Degrease them with alcohol, let them dry and spray a thin coat of base. Without a base, paint rubs off smooth brass.
