A detailed aftermarket set from Voyager Model in 1:35 scale for the Tamiya 35294 plastic kit. Photo-etched brass sheet replaces the parts on which the thickness of plastic is apparent at first glance: covers, rims, brackets and small equipment. The set serves as an accessory for the build and does not make up a model on its own.
The Italian self-propelled gun known as the Semovente M40 came about during the Second World War on the chassis of the M13/40 medium tank. The 75 mm weapon was mounted in a fixed superstructure with no rotating turret, which simplified the design and lowered the silhouette of the vehicle. The type originally served to support infantry and was gradually used against armored targets as well. The vehicle was fairly small, so coarser parts show up on it more markedly than on large tanks.
Painted photo-etched parts offer an effect that is hard to achieve from plastic. On the edges of fenders, covers and tread surfaces the paint on real vehicles wears down to bare metal, and the brass under the paint has exactly the right shade. So on exposed spots it is enough, once painted, to sand carefully with very fine abrasive paper or a glass pencil until the metal appears. Keep the effect in check: it is realistic only where the crew and the load actually touched the vehicle, that is on edges, hatches and steps. A dark wash in the recesses makes a good complement, and finally dry deposits of dust pigments on the lower surfaces.
The set is an accessory for a plastic kit and is not a standalone model. The kit, glue, paints and tools are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
