The SU-122 was a Soviet self-propelled gun of the Second World War built on the chassis of the T-34 medium tank. Instead of a rotating turret it carried a 122 mm howitzer in a fixed closed superstructure, meant to support infantry and to destroy field fortifications at short range. Production ran from 1942 to 1944, and it was later replaced by types with more powerful guns. Thanks to the low superstructure and the simple shape the model is rewarding to build, and thin details stand out on it all the more.
Cyanoacrylate is the most common cause of a spoiled build with photo-etched parts. A drop from the bottle is many times oversized for a part two millimeters across; it overflows and leaves a white bloom. So pour a drop onto a piece of plastic or foil and take from it only with the tip of a pin or a drawn-out bristle. Apply the glue to the model, not to the photo-etched part, and place the part with tweezers. A gel version gives longer to straighten things, while a thin one is drawn in by capillary action under a part already in place. Remove any residue at once with a cotton bud moistened in alcohol; once it has dried, only sanding is left.
