About product

HMS Warspite 1942 1:350 (Trumpeter)

An injection-molded plastic kit of the British battleship HMS Warspite as she was in 1942, from the manufacturer Trumpeter in 1:350 scale. The extensive kit has a split hull for the build of a full hull as well as a waterline, a finely represented wooden deck, gun barrels with hollow muzzles and photo-etched parts. Shipboard aircraft, a stand with a nameplate and decals are included. It is a separate, newer mold, different from the Warspite kits of other manufacturers.

The real subject

HMS Warspite was a battleship of the Queen Elizabeth class with a main caliber of 381 mm (15 inch). Over a long and exceptionally rich career she took part in the fighting of both world wars and became one of the most decorated ships of the Royal Navy, nicknamed the Grand Old Lady. In her 1942 form the kit captures the ship after her interwar reconstruction, with modernized superstructure and a strengthened anti-aircraft armament.

Building and painting tips

Choose the full hull or the waterline beforehand. The photo-etched parts call for patience: bend the railings and the cranes precisely and glue them with cyanoacrylate glue, and glue the plastic parts with a thin cement for plastic. Paint with an airbrush in a period British naval camouflage; tone the represented wooden deck and accent the planks finely. The complex superstructure rewards a discreet patina and accenting of the panels. Apply the decals over a gloss varnish. Extra photo-etched parts and a wooden deck will lift the model further.

Who the model is for

  • For fans of the Royal Navy of the Second World War
  • For collectors of large ships in 1:350 scale
  • For modelers who will appreciate photo-etched parts right in the package
  • A more demanding build, rather for more advanced modelers

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
