An extensive upgrade set in 1:350 from the firm Very Fire. It is not a kit of a ship: it is a collection of fine accessory parts that replace the coarser plastic parts of the base model of a German pocket battleship. The core of such sets is photo-etched sheet, from which the railings, the ladders, the radar antennas, the gun platforms, the hatches and other structures are made, parts whose thinness injected plastic could never manage at this scale. The scope of the set is above the usual, so reckon on work spread over several evenings.
The German ships of the Deutschland class, nicknamed pocket battleships (Panzerschiff), came about at the turn of the 1920s and 1930s as a compromise between a limited permitted displacement and a demand for heavy armament. They carried their main artillery of 28 cm caliber in two triple turrets, had a largely welded hull and diesel engines, which gave them great range. The class comprised Deutschland (later renamed Lützow), Admiral Scheer and Admiral Graf Spee. During the war they served mainly in operations against merchant shipping and were later reclassified as heavy cruisers.
Cut the photo-etch with a sharp scalpel on a hard surface and bend it in a bending tool or between two blades rather than with your fingers, as brass fatigues quickly and cracks. It is glued with super glue applied with a pin, and on large parts a slower gel variant helps, as it leaves time for alignment. Degrease the parts before painting and use a primer for metal, otherwise the paint will not hold on shiny brass. Fit the railings and the antennas right at the end, once the hull is painted and dry.
This is an accessory, not a standalone model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
