About product

HMS Repulse 1941 1:350 (Trumpeter)

An injection-molded plastic kit of the British battlecruiser HMS Repulse from the manufacturer Trumpeter in 1:350 scale, capturing the ship in her final form of 1941. It is an extensive kit with photo-etched parts for the cranes, ladders and railings and with clear parts for two Supermarine Walrus float planes. The hull is split for the build of a full hull as well as a waterline. A stand is included.

The real subject

HMS Repulse was a British battlecruiser of the Renown class, completed during the First World War and modernized several times between the wars. She was a fast ship with a strong main caliber but weaker armor, typical of the battlecruiser concept. In December 1941 she was sunk, together with the battleship Prince of Wales, by a Japanese air attack off the Malayan coast. That event showed the vulnerability of large surface ships without air cover.

Building and painting tips

First choose the full hull or the waterline. The photo-etched parts call for patience: bend the railings and the cranes precisely and glue them with cyanoacrylate glue, and glue the plastic parts with a thin cement for plastic. Mask the clear parts of the Walrus aircraft before spraying. Paint with an airbrush in a period British naval camouflage; fine accenting of the panels and a discreet patina will bring out the complex superstructure and the wooden deck. Apply the decals over a gloss clear coat and seal them with a matte one. Extra photo-etched parts and a wooden deck will lift the model further.

Who the model is for

  • For fans of the Royal Navy of the Second World War
  • For collectors of large ships in 1:350 scale
  • For modelers who will appreciate photo-etched parts right in the package
  • A more demanding build, rather for more advanced modelers

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
