This product is not a kit. It is an accessory: a thin veneer of real wood printed with the laying of the deck planks and with an adhesive layer on the back, which you glue onto the plastic deck of the model. It is cut for the Hasegawa 40021 kit, so check before you buy that you have the matching release.
New veneer looks clean and even once it is glued down. A ship with a wooden deck, though, never looks like a freshly laid floor, and the difference is made by exactly what settles in the seams. The simplest procedure is a very thin dark wash on an oil or enamel base, which is applied over the whole area and left to run into the seams between the planks by itself. After a while the excess is wiped off with a cloth in the direction of the laying, not across it, so that it stays only in the recesses. Try the strength of the effect on an offcut, because wood is more absorbent than plastic and a dark tone is hard to bring back. For a discreet lift, very fine irregular differences in the tone of individual planks are enough; pronounced stains and streaks quickly look unnatural in 1:350 scale. Before weathering it is a good idea to seal the wood with a thin coat of varnish so that the wash does not run deeper than you want.
Sand and degrease the plastic deck and take the protective film off the back in sections. Lay the piece dry first, line it up by the openings and only then glue from the center out to the edges.
The accessory is supplied separately. The kit, paints, washes and varnish are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
