This is an accessory, not a ship model. The masking sheet is a pre-cut self-adhesive film that follows the shape of the decks of the Japanese battleship Musashi in 1:350 scale exactly. It lets you mask off and then spray the wooden areas of the deck evenly without the paint running onto the metal edges, the hatches and other detail. The result is a clean transition between the wooden deck and the surrounding areas. The manufacturer cut it for the Tamiya 78016/78031 kit.
The Musashi belonged to the Japanese Yamato class and ranked among the largest battleships ever built. She carried main guns of 46 cm caliber and was operated by the Imperial Japanese Navy. She was sunk at the Battle of the Sibuyan Sea in October 1944.
Apply the mask to a clean, grease-free surface. The individual parts peel off and are laid down exactly along the outline of the deck; press the edges down carefully so that no paint can run under them. It is best to spray in thin coats and to remove the mask while the last coat is still fresh, for sharp edges.
This is a separate accessory to a plastic model. The ship kit itself, the paints and the glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
