A wooden deck for a model of a ship of the imperial Chinese Peiyang Fleet in 1:350 scale. It replaces the engraved imitation of planks on the plastic deck with real wood.
Responsibility details are not available.
Wood is harder to imitate with paint than one would expect. A fine grain, small differences in shade between the individual planks and the soft sheen of the surface arise by themselves only when the deck really is made of wood. That is exactly the point of this accessory: a thin wooden piece with the planks drawn on it is laid on the deck of a plastic model and replaces the shallow engraving, which largely disappears once paint is sprayed on. On ships from the era when a wooden deck was part of the equipment of every warship the difference is visible at first glance.
The Peiyang Fleet was the main naval force of imperial China at the end of the nineteenth century. It came about through the purchase of modern steel ships from European shipyards and was meant to be an answer to the rapid armament in the region. Its fate was decided by the war with Japan in 1894 and 1895, after which the fleet ceased to exist. Models of its ships are among the less usual subjects, which makes them stand out all the more on a shelf.
Which ship and which kit the piece is cut for is stated in the instructions from the manufacturer; check it before you build. First clear the plastic deck of flash and raised marks and degrease the surface. Lay the piece on dry, check it against the cutouts for the superstructure and the openings, and only then attach it; the method of attachment is given in the instructions. Press from the center out to the edges so that no bubbles form under the piece, and free the small cutouts with a sharp blade rather than by tearing.
This is an accessory for a model. The kit, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
