An accessory for a model of the Russian battleship Gangut of the First World War period in 1:350 scale. The contents are a wood veneer with pre-printed laying of the deck planks and an adhesive backing, which is glued onto the plastic deck of the kit. It is not a model of the ship but a part for one; the cut is prepared for the Revell 05137 kit.
A glued-down veneer looks good even untreated, but only weathering turns it into a surface that looks used. The proven procedure is unobtrusive: a very thin dark wash applied only into the seams, wiped off at once with a cotton swab along the planks, and then an irregular, barely perceptible lightening of a few individual planks with a light oil paint. Never accentuate all the seams equally: regularity is what gives a model away as a model.
First level and degrease the plastic and try the pieces dry. Then glue from the center out to the edges with the film taken off only in sections. Trimming the overhangs with a sharp blade and lightly sanding the edges follows. Only a sealed surface covered with matte varnish is ready for weathering: on bare wood the wash would bleed and could not be removed.
The accessory is supplied without the kit. Paints, washes and varnish are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
