This is a complete ship kit meant to be assembled and painted, not an accessory for a model by another manufacturer and not a finished model. Ship models of this scale are among the larger projects, so count on having enough room in a display case.
The New Jersey was the second ship of the Iowa class, the last American class of battleships taken into service. The main armament consisted of nine 406 mm guns in three triple turrets, supplemented by a secondary battery of 127 mm guns. Compared with older battleships the Iowa class had a long slender hull and a powerful machinery installation, thanks to which it could keep pace with fast carrier groups. The ship went through several periods of active service and, between them, extensive reworking of armament and electronics, so her appearance changed markedly over time; for a faithful build it is therefore essential to know which period you are modeling.
First decide whether you will build the model full-hull on a stand or as a waterline version on a base. Glue the hull halves together in sections and fill and sand the joint at the keel and at the bow carefully; on a large model every unevenness shows. Paint the deck and the hull before you fit the small superstructures and the armament. Fine railings, ladders and radars can be replaced with photo-etched parts and the barrels with turned metal ones; both are sold separately. Plan the order of painting according to the camouflage scheme and mask the areas with low-tack tape, so that the base is not damaged. Keep the weathering restrained: a large gray hull takes only fine emphasis of the edges, mild dirt around the anchor hawses and a hint of streaking.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
