A 1:350 wooden deck for the heavy cruiser USS Indianapolis CA-35 in her 1944 state replaces the engraved plastic decoration with real veneer with pre-printed planks.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set belongs among accessories, not among kits. The wood veneer with an adhesive layer is cut to the outlines of the deck surfaces of one specific kit and has the laying of the individual planks printed on the surface. The year given in the name refers to a specific state of the ship, which the placing of the cutouts for the superstructure and the equipment matches.
Most of the work with a wooden deck comes after it is glued down. The pre-printed seams between the planks can be brought out with a very thin wash in dark brown or gray brown, applied to a small area with the excess wiped off at once with a cloth drawn in the direction of the planks. Work in sections and never flood the whole deck at once: wood soaks and a dark stain cannot be taken back. For the impression of worn traffic, a dry brush with a lighter shade along the edges of the planks works well, together with fine graphite or pigment dust around the hatches and ladders. Restraint looks better here than pronounced effects: a real teak deck was scrubbed and more faded than dirty.
The deck is tied in shape to one specific kit, the Academy 14107. There are also several deck sets for the same ship for different releases and different dated states, so compare the whole name of the item with the box you have at home.
A separately sold accessory. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
