An accessory for builders of ship models: a wooden deck for a model of the American battleship USS New Jersey in 1:350 scale. It is not a kit of the ship, so the package holds neither hull nor superstructures. The set replaces the plastic deck of the base kit with a more faithful surface carrying a routed planking pattern. It is cut for a particular model at this scale, so check before buying that you have the matching kit. The particular extent of the set, that is which deck areas it covers and whether it also holds additional details, is not stated here. The set allows for the Trumpeter 80603 kit.
USS New Jersey, with hull number BB-62, is an American battleship of the Iowa class. Ships of this class were among the largest and fastest battleships of the US Navy, and their extensive wood-covered decks are one of the most striking features that will convincingly set a model apart from bare plastic.
Offer the deck up dry first and check that the outline and the cutouts for the superstructures and turrets fit. Rid the plastic deck beneath it of grease and of any raised spots, so that the wood seats without bubbles. Lay it down from one edge and press it on gradually rather than over the whole area at once. The wood is usually left in its natural color, or at most lightly brought out with a thin wash that underlines the joints between the planks; apply the paint carefully and try it on an offcut first. Paint the superstructures and the armament separately and fit them only after the deck is laid.
This is an accessory to a model, not a kit. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package.
