USS Ohio BB-68 is a large plastic kit of the unfinished American battleship of the Montana class in 1:350 scale from the Trumpeter brand.
Responsibility details are not available.
Trumpeter has prepared an extensive kit with more than a thousand parts, photo-etched metal and a metal anchor chain. The finished model exceeds eighty centimeters in length and ten centimeters in width, so this is a piece for which it is good to have the room in a display case ready in advance. The rendering of the superstructure, the decks and the gun turrets is based on the design form of the class.
The Montana class was to be the peak of the American battle fleet: twelve barrels of 16 inch caliber in four turrets, markedly stronger armor and a hull so wide that it would not have fitted into the locks of the Panama Canal. The Ohio was given the sequence number BB-68 as the third unit of the class. In 1943 the decision was taken to cancel the construction before the keel was laid, because both the steel and the capacity of the shipyards went to aircraft carriers. The model therefore captures a project that stayed on the drawing boards.
Glue the hull together and let it cure properly, and only then fit the decks. Fit the photo-etched railings only after the wooden surfaces are painted. Seat the barrels in the turrets at the same elevation, otherwise the model looks disorderly. The sides stand up to light accentuating of the rows of rivets with a dry brush.
The box contains unglued and unpainted parts; paints and glue are not in it.
