A wooden deck for the model of the battleship USS Missouri BB-63 in 1:350 scale, an alternative to a deck area imitated with paint.
Responsibility details are not available.
The battleships of the Iowa class, to which USS Missouri BB-63 belongs, were the last generation of American battleships. They combined heavy gun armament with the speed allowed by a long slender hull. Their planked deck runs from the bow all the way to the stern and is interrupted only by the turrets, the superstructures and the deck equipment, so the wood makes up a striking part of what can be seen on the model from above.
The part is laid on the plastic deck of the model and copies its shape including the recesses. In such a large scale the natural grain of the wood comes into its own fully and the surface stops looking like a uniform sprayed area. Anyone building a model for a display case with lighting from above will appreciate it most, because it is from above that the deck is best seen.
First the dry fit: lay the part on, go over the outline and verify that the recesses correspond to the superstructures on the model. The base must be clean, dry and free of grease. Spray the hull and the sides before you lay the deck down, so that no overspray reaches the wood. The natural shade can be toned down slightly with a dark glaze coat, and a matte varnish will unify the surface. Wood is sensitive to being bent by force, so handle the part flat. The gluing procedure is given in the manufacturer's instructions.
The set is for modelers who want to deal with the deck on a large battleship model without the lengthy painting and shading of the individual areas. It is an accessory for a kit, not a complete model; paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
